Hello Bromos,

I wanted to know whether artificial sweeteners like stevia, xylitol act as preservatives?

Thank you in advance

This is a misconception.
Preservation is only achived by using chemical, thermal or physical means.
Sweetness is derived by either natural sugar sources. Processed sugars or chemical high intensity Sweeteners.
The two categories have totally separate functionality in food use.

Natural sugars have no preservation effect; but the small molecule like fructose had Aw lowering effect which others interpret as preservative effect..
Meanwhile high intensity sweeteners never has such effects.

Hi there, Swati_Gavimath,
As you can see from the well-written responses above, artificial sweeteners do not act as preservatives. Preservatives can alter the taste of products, often bringing in a more bitter aftertaste.
We work with products that deal with these concerns with both *bitter blockers* and *flavor amplifiers* that can overpower the negative taste attributes from preservatives. Reach out if you'd like to learn more: blockbitterbetter@tastesnatural.com
Best wishes.
