Determining the chloride

To determine the chloride in water I tested the chloride test of water.
I took 100 ml sample in conical flask after that I add 1 ml potassium chromate solution and I titrated with silver nitrate solution till pinkish yellow colour is not obtained but I didn’t understand the how they react and gave pinkish yellow colour to water sample.

The slight excess of Ag will give a pinkish yellow color in its reaction with chromate..
